Coffee on the Dock: How one Specialty Coffee Subscription Became Part of a Family's Summer Ritual

A real customer story about specialty coffee, community, and the simple joy of enjoying coffee wherever life takes you.

Steaming coffee mug, open book, and blanket on a wooden dock at sunrise beside a misty forest lake.

One of the greatest joys of being a specialty coffee roaster isn't simply roasting exceptional coffee.

It's discovering how that coffee quietly becomes part of people's everyday lives.

At The Tree Coffee House, we often hear stories about peaceful mornings, family gatherings, conversations with friends, and the small rituals that make ordinary days feel a little more meaningful.

Every now and then, one of those stories reminds us exactly why we started this journey.

"One of the greatest privileges of roasting coffee isn't roasting coffee. It's discovering that your coffee has quietly become part of someone else's story." — Luis Barrionuevo

Recently, I received a message from Lynn Martin, the very first member of our Coffee Subscription program.

Lynn and her family have been enjoying our Rooted Espresso for months. When I asked if she would be willing to share her experience, she sent me something far more meaningful than a testimonial.

She shared a story.

With her permission, I'm honoured to share it with you.

Why Supporting a Local Coffee Roaster Matters

When people choose to buy from a local coffee roaster, they're rarely purchasing coffee alone.

They're supporting a dream.

They're investing in relationships.

They're helping small businesses grow within their own communities.

As coffee lovers ourselves, we never take that trust for granted.

Lynn beautifully expressed that thought in her own words.

Lynn's Story

"About six months ago, I made the decision to try coffee from a local coffee roaster.

I did that for a few reasons.

One, I have been more and more trying to support local businesses.

Two, I enjoy great coffee.

And three, Luis and his family are trying to establish a small business, which I can relate to because that was our family some 46 years ago.

To do that, you have to provide a great product along with great service.

Well, I can say without reservation that The Tree Coffee House has lived up to those expectations!

We enjoy it so much that I brought enough coffee with us to our cottage this summer so we could enjoy it there, because...

Coffee on the dock is one of the joys of summer!

Our favourite coffee is Rooted Espresso that we drink daily. Highly recommend!

Thank you to Luis and the team for this venture into the coffee world. We are happy recipients."

When I finished reading Lynn's message, I couldn't help but smile.

Not because she complimented our coffee.

Not because she mentioned our service.

But because she reminded me why The Tree Coffee House exists.

When we first imagined this journey, our goal wasn't simply to roast great specialty coffee.

It was to become part of the moments that people remember.

The quiet cup before work.

The pause after lunch.

A conversation shared with a friend.

A family gathering.

A road trip.

A peaceful morning by the lake.

Coffee setup by a misty lakeside: mug, pour-over dripper, grinder, beans, and The Tree Coffee House bag.

Reading Lynn's story reminded me that coffee isn't simply something we drink.

It's something we bring with us.

It travels to the places we love.

It becomes part of the memories we create.

Sometimes those memories happen around the kitchen table.

Sometimes they happen while watching the sunrise.

And sometimes...

they happen on a quiet dock, holding a warm cup of coffee and enjoying one of the simple joys of summer.

Those are the moments that remind me we're not simply roasting coffee.

We're helping create coffee rituals that people carry with them, wherever life takes them.

Why a Specialty Coffee Subscription Is About More Than Convenience

When Lynn became the very first member of our Coffee Subscription, she wanted to make sure her favourite coffee was always close at hand.

Months later, reading her story, I realized something.

A coffee subscription isn't simply about having freshly roasted coffee delivered to your door.

It's about consistency.

It's about knowing your favourite coffee will always be waiting for you.

At home.

At work.

At the cottage.

Or wherever your next adventure begins.

Lynn's favourite coffee is our Rooted Espresso, a 100% Brazilian specialty coffee crafted especially for rich espresso drinks while remaining wonderfully balanced for everyday enjoyment.

Knowing that Rooted Espresso has become part of her family's daily routine—and even travelled to the cottage with them—is one of the greatest compliments we could ever receive.

Thank you, Lynn.

Thank you for believing in us from the very beginning.

Thank you for supporting a local coffee roaster.

And thank you for allowing us to become a small part of your family's coffee ritual.

It truly means more than you know.

Every Coffee Ritual Has a Story

One of my favourite parts of meeting our customers is discovering where our coffee travels.

Some enjoy it before the sun rises.

Some take it to work every morning.

Some never leave for a trip without packing their favourite whole beans and a small hand grinder.

Others simply look forward to their afternoon cup after a busy day.

Every ritual is different.

Every destination is unique.

Every story reminds us that coffee is never just coffee.

It's part of the people, places, and moments that make life memorable.

And perhaps that's one of the greatest gifts of specialty coffee.

It quietly accompanies us through every season of life.
